State College, PA, June 27, 2013 - AccuWeather is leading the way in location-based services (LBS) for the Chinese market by becoming the first licensee of a patent granted on May 1, 2013 by the People's Republic of China.
The patented technology, owned by Locator IP, LP, a technology development company affiliated with AccuWeather, works to create, develop, secure, proliferate, and protect the processes of transmitting user-specific, location-specific, and location-aware content over wireless platforms world-wide.
The newly granted patent, "Interactive Weather Advisory System," enables a broadcast network for transmitting individualized weather signals to remote devices. Leveraging the patent, AccuWeather will provide superior real-time weather data relative to the locations of mobile devices and according to users' profiles and preferences.
AccuWeather has the rights to sub-license the patent rights for use in relation to weather.
AccuWeather currently licenses four patents granted in China from Locator IP, LP, all relating to an interactive weather advisory system.
