While the worst of the latest storm to batter the Northwest is over, heavy snow will continue spreading across the northern Rockies through today. Another storm will affect the region later today into tonight, bringing more rain and mountain snow.

As has been the case with many of the storms that have hit the Pacific Northwest recently, the one that moved onshore over the weekend packed a punch. High winds gusting between 50 and 80 mph across western Washington and Oregon took down trees and created power outages in many areas, including downtown Portland and Salem.

Soaking rain also accompanied the high winds in these areas, while heavy snow fell across the Cascades, including some of the major passes. Sections of Snoqualmie, Stevens and White Pass in Washington were snow-covered and icy Sunday.

Though most of the leftover rain and snow will be lightening up or tapering off across Washington and Oregon through this morning, several more inches of snow will accumulate across the Washington Cascades.

People who must travel through mountain passes this morning should allow plenty of extra time to reach their destination. Travel could still be slow and dangerous.

Snow will also continue spreading through the northern Rockies today with an additional 3 to 6 inches accumulating in the Bitterroots, Grand Tetons and mountains of western Montana.

Another storm will bring more rain and mountain snow to western Washington later today into tonight. Winds with this storm are not expected to be nearly as strong. Snow levels are also expected to rise above most of the passes.
