The storm train over
the Northwest is getting more active and will send
more storms through the region later this weekend and next week. While tranquil weather prevails in the Southland this weekend, building
high pressure behind the next storm could bring an episode of
high winds.
Thus far
snow levels have remained above pass levels in the
Cascades with Friday's storm. Fortunately, through the duration of this
storm, people traveling along
I-90 in Washington shouldn't run into any snow over
Snoqualmie Pass.
As the storm pushes into the northern
Rockies, it can bring some travel
problems farther east along
I-90 in Idaho and Montana today. Several inches of
snow could accumulate at Mullan Pass.
Rain and high elevation snow will spread into
Wyoming and the
western part of the Dakotas as well.
A new storm will swing southeastward along the British Columbia Coast and into northwest Washington Sunday.
This next storm could lower
snow levels enough cause problems over
Snoqualmie Pass Monday into Tuesday.
The second storm could also bring more substantial wind gusts to
the Northwest Sunday and Monday.
Since a larger, stronger
high pressure system may follow this second
storm, there will be the risk of
high winds over portions of
California and the
Desert Southwest Tuesday into Wednesday.
The key will be how well surface winds hook up with the air high above the ground. If winds line up from the same direction, damaging and disruptive
wind gusts at the surface may result over the passes and down through the canyons.
