A storm currently bringing
high winds and heavy snow to parts of the West will trigger a severe
weather outbreak over the southern Plains, Texas and the lower
Mississippi
Valley during the second half of the week.
The first of the storms will fire late Wednesday from west-central Texas to central Kansas.
The storms are likely to produce damaging wind gusts and
large hail.
A couple of the
strongest storms could also spin off a tornado.
The threat of severe weather will expand as it moves farther east over Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas Thursday.
On Friday, the risk of damaging storms will reach the central and lower
Mississippi Valley.
As the storms move into areas hit hard by recent
heavy rainfall, the risk of
new flooding problems will increase as well.
Areas from
Austin and
San Antonio to
Little Rock,
Memphis and
New Orleans will run the risk of poor drainage, small stream
and lowland area flooding.
Any of the storms can bring a downpour that leads to brief street flooding.
West of the severe thunderstorm threat,
high winds without
thunderstorms will lead to areas of
blowing dust, automobile
accidents and minor property damage from western Texas to
Southern
California into Wednesday.

3 and
