The South will not be the only
part of the nation being impacted by a stubborn storm. An extremely slow-moving disturbance will produce more heavy showers and thunderstorms over
New Mexico today into Friday.
Some of the showers and thunderstorms accompanying the disturbance have and will continue to unleash drenching downpours. Dangerous
flash flooding problems could result.
The downpours could quickly inundate normally dry stream beds, canyons and low-lying roads. The flooding problems may arise due to a storm dropping
rain farther upstream. Remember, never put your life at risk by driving through a flooded road.
It is not out of the question that a thunderstorm or two drops hail or produces
strong winds. Quarter-sized hail damaged a vehicle on
I-25 south of San Antonio, N.M., on Wednesday.
Albuquerque is one place where the drenching showers and
thunderstorms will rumble over today through Friday. The wet weather could ruin some outdoor events at the New Mexico State Fair.
For those attending the fair and anyone else participating in outdoor activities, be sure to
seek shelter if a thunderstorm is approaching your area. You are close enough to get
struck by
lightning if you can hear thunder.
Most of the energy associated with the disturbance should leave New Mexico by the weekend. That will limit
the thunderstorms to the afternoon on Saturday. The threat for
heavy rain and severe weather should lessen.
