Slippery roads will continue to be
a problem with a freeing drizzle and a snow and rain mix falling across portions of the Dakotas and Minnesota at times today into tonight. Drizzly
and dreary weather will impact areas farther south and west with slightly
milder air in place.
Snow will mix in with
rain at times across areas spanning from
western Minnesota and eastern portions of the Dakotas today.
Portions of
I-29 and
I-94 will have slick and dangerous travel this morning.
Meanwhile, areas farther west like the western Dakotas into
eastern
Montana will continue to be threatened by a spotty freeing drizzle into the first part of today. Roads and sidewalks will become extremely
icy and treacherous in this zone.
However, heavy ice accumulations are not expected, so there should be no widespread risk of downed tree limbs or power outages.
A tenth of an inch of ice accumulated near Beach, N.D., by
late on Tuesday evening, causing tricky travel in this area.
The wintry weather will change over to a very
light rain or drizzle by this
afternoon over most areas, meaning there should not be as many problems for the afternoon commute.
As temperatures fall below
freezing yet again tonight, much of the Dakotas and Minnesota will have snow fall alone or mix in with rain.
Grand Forks, N.D. and
Fargo, N.D., are among the cities and
towns that could have accumulations of 1-3 inches of snow tonight into Thursday morning.
Bismarck could have a coating to an inch of snow overnight.
It will likely be more of a slushy mix on roadways on Thursday morning in areas where more of a wintry mix falls.
Wintry weather will spread farther east early on Thursday into areas farther east in Minnesota, including
St. Paul and
Minneapolis and
northern Wisconsin, including Wausau, Wis.
By Thursday, the High Plains will have a significant warmup. Highs will be in the 50s, 60s and even the 70s, closer to normal for this time of year.
Farther east, the afternoon moderation of temperatures will not be as extreme. Highs will be in the 40s from the eastern Dakotas through the
Great Lakes.
