A
storm system slowly meandering across the northern Plains will spark
powerful thunderstorms on the Plains this weekend.
The storms will erupt as cooler air trailing behind the system clashes with warm air
currently in place.
Strong thunderstorms rumbled over the northern Plains on Friday, pelting some with
large hail, while wind gusts downed trees and power lines.
Heavy rain even prompted minor flooding on roadways. A
lightning strike started a pasture fire in Stratton, Neb.
Today started out with
powerful thunderstorms on the prowl in the eastern Dakotas
and Nebraska. This afternoon, the storms will shift southward and eastward, threatening a swath from Minnesota to the Texas Panhandle.
Severe thunderstorms will also erupt in
Wyoming, taking aim at the western parts of South Dakota and
Nebraska this evening.
Flooding downpours,
large hail and damaging wind gusts will be the primary concerns
from these storms. However, a tornado cannot be ruled out from the strongest of
the
thunderstorms.
The
severe weather threat will shift eastward on Sunday, ranging from Minnesota and
Wisconsin through
eastern Nebraska.
Meanwhile, areas farther to the east will remain warm and summery. The hot weather will head into the East on Sunday into early next week.
