A rare springtime snow has fallen over the past few days in portions of Europe. In northwestern Greece and interior Macedonia, a thick layer of snow fell on mountainous areas on Thursday, according to the Athens News Agency. Two cold frontal passages through the British Isles have also brought unseasonably cold and wintry conditions to the region. At Aberdeen, Scotland, snow showers were reported for much of Saturday and Saturday night, reducing visibilities below a mile at times, and the high temperature of 39 degrees was a full ten degrees below normal. Snowfall of three to six inches is forecast over the Highlands of Scotland through Sunday night, an unusual event for April. Snow squalls also reached the Midlands of England, located not far northwest from London. Birmingham had visibility reduced below a mile at times on Saturday night, and a couple of inches of snowfall is forecast. Wind chills fell below 0F at some higher elevations of Scotland and northern England, a combination of cold temperatures and a biting northerly wind at 20 to 35 mph.
