Heat Builds into Weekend
7/23/2008 3:54 PM
High pressure building over the Great Basin will return record-challenging heat to much of the West through the weekend.

The heat will spread across the West ahead of the arrival of moisture from the remnants of Hurricane Dolly. The extreme heat in Southern California will add to the drought conditions that have led to the worst fire year in state history.

Temperatures in the Central Valley and High Desert will top 100 degrees, while highs will top 90 across much of the Intermountain West. Temperatures along the coast will be lower due to the influence of marine air.

The AccuWeather.com Hurricane Center reports as the remnants of Hurricane Dolly move across northern Mexico later in the week, its moisture will be absorbed into the monsoon flow, increasing the potential for showers from Southern California to New Mexico.
