While
pleasant weather continues across much of California and
the Southwest throughout Thanksgiving week, a
cold front will deliver another round of drenching showers and thunderstorms
to parts of Texas.
Some of the areas that were hit hard with
heavy rain Friday could be
affected by this next round Tuesday. Flash flooding and travel delays could result in a few places.
The
cold front will push south and eastward through Texas and Oklahoma
Monday into Monday night, producing little more than a few isolated showers.
As the front approaches the Texas coast Tuesday, however, it will be able to tap into moisture from the Gulf of Mexico and produce more widespread
showers and thunderstorms from
Brownsville to the
Houston area.
A few of the showers and storms could be quite heavy, dropping an inch or two of rain over a short period of time. Flooding of small streams,
low-lying areas and city streets could result. However, widespread flooding is not
expected.
The main impact will more likely be slow traffic and
airport delays. In South
Texas, the rain will actually be welcomed.
While
heavy rain from late August into October substantially improved
drought conditions in Texas, a good portion of South Texas still remains in a long-term drought.
After the front blows through Tuesday, dry weather is expected across the southern Plains through Thanksgiving. No weather-related travel delays are
expected across the
Southern Plains or Southwest
Wednesday into Thursday.
