Stormy Sunday; Chilly Weather Continues
8/9/2008 1:35 PM
Although much of the Northeast was dry on Saturday, showers and thunderstorms will make a return to the region on Sunday. Some of the thunderstorms can become severe Sunday afternoon and evening, despite temperatures staying below seasonable averages through early next week.

The South Regional News story reports a cold front has pushed all the way to the Gulf of Mexico this weekend. The unusual blast of cool air will make it feel like autumn across much of the eastern half of the nation through early next week, especially across the Northeast.

Friday night into early Saturday morning, low temperatures in the Northeast were below average for early August as they dropped into the 50s, which is typical mid-September. Some mountains of Pennsylvania could have temperatures drop into the mid- to upper 40s tonight. Temperatures will remain chilly through early next week.

Low temperatures on Saturday morning across the region included:
  • Bradford, Pa.: 53 degrees
  • Watkins Glen, N.Y.: 58 degrees
  • Rutland, Vt.: 58 degrees
  • Morgantown, W.Va.: 54 degrees
  • Charlottesville, Va.: 62 degrees
A vigorous disturbance will move into the region on Sunday, creating a severe weather threat, especially along the Interstate 95 corridor. Large hail and damaging winds are the primary risk, especially Sunday afternoon and evening.

Wet and cool weather will remain in place for Monday before a gradual warming trend occurs towards the latter part of next week.
