Chilly Weekend
8/8/2008 1:35 PM
Cool air will cause thunderstorms throughout the weekend in areas of the region.

The South Regional News story reports a cold front has pushed all the way to the Gulf of Mexico this weekend.

The unusual blast of cool air will make it feel like autumn across much of the eastern half of the nation through Sunday.

Last night temperatures in the Northeast were below normal for early August as they dropped into the 50's, which is typical mid-September.

Cooler air will cause localized thunderstorms in Northern Pa. and N.Y. today, but most of Pa. will remain dry and cool. Saturday night temperatures will remain chilly. Some mountains of Pa. could see temperatures drop into the mid-upper 40's overnight.

Low temperatures Saturday morning across the region included:
  • Bradford, Pa.: 53 degrees
  • Watkins Glen, N.Y.: 58 degrees
  • Rutland, Vt.: 58 degrees
  • Morgantown, W.Va.: 54 degrees
  • Charlottesville, Va.: 62 degrees
Northern New England will see more showers and thunderstorms today, which will continue overnight.

Flood-related watches and warnings are in effect across northern New England.

Some storm thunderstorms along the coast today could cause gusty winds and hail this afternoon. Storms will weaken overnight.
