Storms On The Way
5/3/2008 4:06 AM
Showers and thunderstorms will continue to press eastward Saturday night as the system that spawned numerous tornadoes and severe thunderstorms moves into the region. Sunday, rain will be confined to New England as westerly winds on the backside of the system bring drier air into the region.

The Severe Weather Center reports that the threat for severe weather will not be as great as it was on Friday, but the potential still exists for some locally severe thunderstorms to form into tonight. Across the Northeast, the greatest area of concern is from western New York and Pennsylvania south through West Virginia and Kentucky.

Drenching downpours, wind gusts exceeding 60 mph and hail can be expected in the strongest of these storms west of the Appalachian Mountains. In addition, an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out with any of these thunderstorms as the day wears on.

Farther to the east, easterly flow will continue to produce cloudy skies over New England with even a bit of rain over northern New England through tonight.

Along the mid-Atlantic coastline, warm and dry conditions will continue for much of today ahead of the approaching storm. Showers and thunderstorms will start making their way into coastal regions tonight.
