Radar Plus Features...
Interactivity:
It's time to stop just looking at the radar screen and start
analyzing it. Start out with a U.S. or state view showing major roads and borders. See a storm of interest? As you zoom in,
more detailed layers of geographical data appear, including county names, airports, highways, and streets. Turn on storm tracks to
see where severe storms will move. Zoom back out, pan around, or automatically center on a severe storm. With this revolutionary
web technology, it all happens immediately with no waiting for pages to load!
Customization:
AccuWeather.com RadarPlus gives you total control of your weather
data and display. While you're interacting with the radar, you can choose whether you want to see raw or "cleaned up" radar data.
Change the colors and customize which levels of data you want to show up. Your actual location is pinpointed on the map and you can
add additional pinpointed locations. Choose your level of detail; specify which layers of geographical data you want turned on and
off, and control them on-the-fly. You can even integrate your own GIS shape files!
PredictiveRadarTM:
Our competitors often use estimated precipitation from a computer forecast model to show you what will
happen in the future - but
AccuWeather.com RadarPlus starts the forecast with the current radar data, then projects movement, path, growth and decay of the
storms into the future. This isn't just for storms tagged as "severe" by the National Weather Service - our predictive radar shows
all significant precipitation. Additional products are available, including predicted rainfall amounts,
areas with hail and areas with heavy storms.
NEW! Predictive Radar has now been extended to SIX hours into the future for RadarPlus Platinum users.
More Weather Data:
Radar is a great tool, but why not integrate other data to get a
clearer picture of your weather? AccuWeather.com RadarPlus can also show you satellite data, lightning strikes, surface observations, and
government
weather advisories - all integrated into the same interactive application and viewable at a national, regional or local level. You
choose which you want to see.
Monitoring Capability:
Open any RadarPlus map to full-screen and leave it there to
monitor incoming hazardous weather. The weather data will automatically update in the background at your zoom level.
Archives:
Miss a storm? Wonder what happened yesterday? RadarPlus features archived
radar images for the last three months.
Now Available: Lightning Strikes!
AccuWeather.com RadarPlus delivers crucial information to a wider audience by offering inexpensive consumer and business access to lightning strike data for the first time ever.
Through the United States Precision Lightning Network (USPLN™), RadarPlus users can now see the locations of lightning strikes. Strikes are of a limited resolution and are not real-time. Our
LightningPlus service
offers services plotting real-time street-level lightning strikes with 100 meter accuracy at street-level, as well as forecast lightning email or wireless alerts and lightning threat maps.
Email and Wireless Weather Alerts!
Users of RadarPlus Platinum can now receive alerts for severe
weather that will affect them. These are not the typical government-controlled
weather warnings but rather alerts to specific weather at a specific location, for example
the approach of heavy rain, strong storms, small hail, and large hail. These alerts, delivered to an
email or cell phone address, will enable them to make better decisions about work,
travel, and leisure plans.
