The Signs of Fall
It's happening. You may not realize it, but it is occurring right before your eyes. We're heading into fall! This becomes more and more clear each day as the signs of fall appear:
  • Temperatures diminish slightly.
  • Daylight starts later and ends earlier: 2-3 minutes of sunlight are lost every day at this time of year.
  • Thunderstorm activity becomes limited: This is largely due to the changes in daytime heating as well as seasonal lag. Daytime heating is lost because of the sun lost during the day as well as a weakening sun angle.
  • Extensive Fog: Since daytime heating is not as strong during the fall, temperatures are not as high during the day. Then, during the night temperature will drop to the dewpoint (when temperatures and dewpoint are the same the relative humidity is 100 percent) and fog forms.
  • Snow appears in the Western mountains: As more frequent cold air events push in from Canada, the highest mountains cool and snow appears in the highest elevations of the mountains (in the West).

  • Fall Season 2009 Is Here!
