- FTP Addresses
- ftp.accuweather.com- Primary FTP address.
- Addresses are not case sensitive. Only use the secondary FTP addresses if you are experiencing problems with the primary address.
- Get the IP number associated with the FTP address. Some systems have cached our old FTP addresses. It is necessary to find out what IP number is being used.
Ping is a generic internet utility that will tell you what IP number is associated with the FTP address. The ping may fail. This is okay. Ping mwill still return an IP address number. Ping the FTP address TWICE andrecord the numbers that were returned.
- For ftp.accuweather.com the correct IP number is: 207.242.93.84
- Try the Secondary Addresses.
The secondary addresses are to be used as a backup and are not to be used all of the time.
- PASV (Passive FTP)
If you can, turn PASV FTP off.
- UNIX Directories:
- UNIX is not our native directory format. Our FTP server can emulate UNIX style directories, and this is turned on for each client individually. However, FTP software can be too smart. The software will know when they have not connected to a UNIX system and look for a different directory format. Most ftp software clients, will allow their user to override the auto detect and select UNIX standard directories.
- If you have asked Accuweather for UNIX style directories, make sure the software you are using is set up correctly. You may not see directory information if this is not set up correctly.
- Web Browsers:
- Web Browsers are very inefficient for FTP clients and should be avoided. AccuWeather will not provide tech support for Web Browsers. If you choose to use a Web Browser, be sure to clear your cache.
- Firewalls:
- Some facilities access the internet through a firewall. Some of these firewalls cache frequently accessed data and the user ends up always getting old data. Check to see that the firewall in use does not do this.
