Rain and wind will continue today from the Carolinas to New England. This weekend, Tropical Storm Kyle will add to the mix as it skirts New England on its way to a landfall over Nova Scotia
on Sunday.
The coastal storm that developed off the Carolina coast moved inland early this morning.

Despite not being named, the storm acquired the characteristics of a tropical system.
The
South Regional News story reports as the storm moves westward through the Carolinas, rain today will spread
from the mid-Atlantic into New England.
Circulation around the system is pumping abundant tropical moisture into the East Coast. The heaviest rain through tonight will fall from Long Island to southern New England. Rain amounts of 2 to 4
inches could lead to flooding, especially in low-lying and poor drainage areas.
Wind gusts of 20 to 40 mph will create rough surf that will pound beaches and create coastal flooding.
The
Severe Weather Center lists the coastal flood advisories and storm-related watches and warnings currently in effect.
The rain and wind today could hamper travel on the ground and in the air along the Interstate 95 corridor. The
FAA Flight Delay map
has up-to-date information on flight delays across the nation.
The rain along the East Coast this weekend could disrupt the final weekend of the Major League Baseball regular season. The New York Mets host the Florida Marlins, while the Philadelphia Phillies
take on the Washington Nationals in Philadelphia. The Phillies are one game up on the Mets in the National League East, with the Mets and Milwaukee Brewers tied atop the standings in the N.L. wild
card race.

Rain and wind in Boston could lead to problems as the Red Sox host the Yankees in a three-game series on the final weekend of regular season play.
The coastal storm on Thursday dumped over 4 inches of rain on Wilmington, N.C. A daily rainfall record was set in Norfolk, Va., after 2.57 inches fell.
High seas resulted in coastal flooding along the North Carolina and Virginia beaches on Thursday. Ocean water poured across Highway 12 in Rodanthe, N.C. Officials kept the road open to only
four-wheel drive vehicles.
The winds on Thursday forced officials to issue a Level 1 restriction on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge and Tunnel. Camper trailers were amongst the vehicles not allowed to travel on the highway.
Officials lifted the restriction for today with calmer winds in the forecast.
Tropical Storm Kyle will add to the nasty weather in the Northeast this weekend.

The storm became the 11th named tropical system in the Atlantic Thursday afternoon.
The
AccuWeather.com Hurricane Center reports the storm strengthened after moving away from the mountainous islands of Hispaniola
and Puerto Rico and is expected to become a hurricane by Saturday.
Kyle is forecast to remain west of Bermuda, where the government has issued a tropical storm watch. The storm this weekend will spread into New England on Sunday as high pressure over the western
Atlantic steers Kyle toward a landfall over the eastern end of Nova Scotia by late Sunday.
New England residents should monitor the progress of Kyle, since a westward shift in its track would increase the severity of the stormy weather.
