More Rain and Snow for Battered Northwest
Updated: Friday, November 20, 2009 2:54 PM

A storm that began to spread rain, high winds and mountain snow into the Northwest on Thursday will continue to pound the region today.

Heavy rain will continue to fall into the afternoon along the Pacific Northwest coast. Later, it will taper into more of a showery rain, which will linger into Saturday. Many areas in the Olympic Peninsula have already been deluged by 2-4 inches of rain as of early Thursday morning, and another 2-4 inches could fall in a few areas today and tonight.

The small town of Forks, Wash., was inundated by 4.47 inches of rain in only 24 hours ending at 11 p.m. PDT Thursday.

Meanwhile, heavy snow will thump the Cascades and the Sierra; 6-12 inches of snow will fall over the major mountain passes of Washington.

Winds will be easing across coastal Washington and Oregon after gusting to 60-70 mph in many communities.
