The latest in a series of powerful storms will sweep ashore in the Pacific Northwest on Saturday night and early Sunday. The storm will soak Seattle and Portland as it whips the coast with high winds. Rain will become heavy snow along the Cascades.
Rainfall of 1-2 inches by afternoon on Sunday will be common in western
Washington and Oregon, as rainfall will be capped owing to the fast pace of the
underlying storm. Any flooding will be minor.
Highest winds gusting 50-70 mph will strike the immediate coast overnight.
Inland, winds will moderate, but gusts to 30-50 mph will buffet greater Seattle
and Portland. East of the the Cascades, strong, gusty winds will blow through
the day on Sunday. These winds will be strong enough to trigger minor damage
and power cuts.
Along the Cascade Range, snow will fall heavily much of Saturday night into
Sunday with amounts of one to two feet through the passes. Strong winds will
blow and drift the snow, further lowering visibility. Travel will be tough
along I-90 through Snoqualmie Pass and it may become impossible through other
major Cascade passes.
East of the Cascades, snow will fall in moderate amounts over areas of
Washington, Oregon, Idaho, western Montana and far-western Wyoming. Passes and
hIgher stretches of I-15, I-84 and I-90 will have slow, slick travel.
