UPDATE : 9 AM: New list of snow & ice amounts posted below the radar (9 AM). Some of the amounts are incredible (3 inches of freezing rain; 6 inches of sleet). New Raw Videos are available at right. Incredible scenes of the ice and devastation in the Midwest.

Nearly half million people lost power (by the numbers I researched below - there is no way to know how many of them still have power, some lost it yesterday morning). That puts this (so far) as worse than the second major ice storm in the Northeast in December, but not as bad as the first one in Mass. which cut power to more than 1 million (important to point out however that this one is much more widespread, and recovery will involve more money, people and take longer). Kentucky has declared a State of Emergency.

Take a gander at the radar below and the observations over the Northeast. It's a beautiful, but dangerous storm. The Associated Press says that 19 people have been killed.
