UPDATE 6 PM: Centredaily.com says that 27,500 customers lost power statewide, with 22,500 of those being here in Centre County! Alleghany Power says that nearly 3,000 are still in the dark nearly 48 hours later.

Well folks, the snow continues in State College early Saturday morning although there has not been much additional accumulation. To recap, the snow began Thursday morning and has pretty much not stopped since.* I talked yesterday about how historic the storm was, how limited of an area the heavy snow fell in, and what records were broken. I also uploaded a lot of pictures of the tree damage, as did other AccuWeather employees. So I won't rehash that here, but I will be uploading more pics & video today and this is a live feed (click here for ALL pics & video):
I got 5 inches at my house with 7 at AccuWeather HQ and 9 inches on Mount Nittany in Centre Hall (the latter has probably increased at least an inch or two due to colder temperatures). How small is the area that has received snow? It's limited to North Central PA and the southern tier of New York State, and amounts over 2 inches are limited to three tiny areas, only one of which is at low elevation and contains any population and that's State College (zoom in on the map here). Elevations in southwest PA such as above Johnstown (which normally received copious amounts of snow each winter) have had only rain!

12,000 customers were without power at the peak of the storm, 6,000 still last night and AlleghenyPower.com lists 5,100 still without power (36 hours later) as of 6 AM this morning. With most homes not winterized yet and temperatures frozen in the lower 30s for the last two days, that's making for some cold families.
The Penn State Homecoming Game today is going to be a mess; some local roads are closed, power is still out in some areas, and snow is still falling. Parking restrictions (the likes of which a PSU game has never seen) are in effect and tailgating has been banned (CDT). Both main routes into the city (which tend to be backed up for 10's of miles on a normal Saturday) are high in elevation and could feature slick roads an accidents (as they did yesterday).
*The CDT article quoted a Penn State Meteorology Professor saying it had snowed for "26 hours straight" as of yesterday morning. My recollection is that it has pretty much not stopped snowing since it began around 8 AM on Thursday (which would make it almost 48 hours now). During that time it has mixed with and perhaps occasionally changed to rain, but I'm confident that somewhere in the county it has been snowing for that long. The official observations from the KUNV airport (which have to be EITHER rain or snow/unknown precip) were 78% non-rain between 1 PM Thursday and 10 AM today.
Looking at the radar lop, there seems to be no immediate end in sight. You can read our news story for more details but the AccuWeather.com forecast for State College predicts the chance of snow above 40% until 1 pm Sunday with another 3.3 inches on the way.

Hey is there any possible chance that itll snow or mix with snow here in northwest Maryland(caroll county) overnight or early tomorrow morning?

This has been quite a storm, no doubt..But, my question here today is if we can get 2! noreasters in a couple of days this time of year, does that mean more is in store for the rest of the winter?? Or is this the type of weather pattern we are going into? Or is this going to continue for another month or 2 and then a pattern change for the rest of the winter? Thanks Jesse
FROM JESSE: I doubt there's much that we can tell from this event, though it's possible that the storm track that we outlined in our Winter Forecast (see previous blog entry) is setting up. For sure October snows don't portend much (see previous blog entry).
