Wintry Start to the Week over California Passes

A storm system pushing inland will produce gusty winds and snow showers over Donner, Cajon and Tejon passes to start the week.
While some ski resorts in the Sierra Nevada will be treated with up to a foot of snow into tonight, the fast-moving storm system will make for tricky travel in the passes.
Snow fell this morning over Donner Pass.
Snow will lower to pass levels at Cajon and Tejon passes this evening. While snow showers will be less intense over the mountains of Southern California, at the local level they can bring a quick coating.
The snow showers throughout the mountains can be accompanied by strong wind gusts reaching 60 mph. The combination of the intermittent snow and wind can make for sudden bouts of low visibility.
Very little rain will fall at lower elevations in California, with only spotty showers. However, there can be a few gusts close to 45 mph right along the coast.
As the storm system pushes quickly inland, mountain snow showers and low-elevation spotty rain showers will continue to press eastward across Nevada, Utah and northern Arizona.
After a break on Tuesday, another storm system will move quickly across the Golden State on Wednesday, quite possibly bringing similar weather conditions.
