Who is Getting What Snow This Weekend in the East?
AccuWeather.com meteorologists have taken an early shot at accumulations from a storm still several days away for the mid-Atlantic and New England.
First Things First
There has been a lot of wanting and not-wanting snow out there, being that it is a heavy travel period and, of course, the Christmas holiday.
A track in this storm as little as 50 miles could mean the difference between heavy snow rolling inland over the mid-Atlantic to just flurries even on the beaches.
However, odds favor a "partial ocean storm" with a swing-out just enough to leave heavy snow out of the mid-Atlantic, want it or not.

Snowfall Amounts
Snowfall over much of North Carolina and much of central and southeastern Virginia and the lower Delmarva are likely to average a coating to an inch. Perhaps a bit more accumulation will occur over the mountains and near the coast if the storm strengthens quickly enough.
From Washington, D.C., to Philadelphia, a coating to an inch seems to be the most likely.
Around Atlantic City, N.J., there will be 1 to perhaps 3 inches with a little stretch across the New York City area ranging from a coating to a couple of inches spanning later on Sunday into Monday.

What ever you do this holiday weekend, stay safe! Photo by photos.com
As we have been saying, New England, especially eastern areas, are in for the worst of the storm with winds kicking up on top of heavy snowfall. In some areas, this will lead to extensive blowing and drifting of snow. However, the storm, for all practical purposes in New England, is coming on Monday.
Accumulations are likely to range upward from a coating to an inch around Albany, N.Y., and 1 to 2 inches in Hartford, Conn., to 3 to 6 inches in Boston and another 6- to 12-inch snowstorm for Cape Cod.
The storm in New England, over all other places along its path from the Plains to the East, has the greatest potential for a surprise. Not only is the storm an extra day or two away from this area, but the risk of the storm cutting farther west or east at the last minute is great and would affect accumulations substantially.

People need to pay close attention to the UV index during this time of year. On a sunny day late in the spring and into the summer, the UV is usually at least an 8, which is very high. Readings over 11 are considered extreme values in which only 10 minutes of full exposure to the sun will produce a sunburn.
