The terrifying video of a tornado crossing the New York Thruway near Amsterdam, N.Y., was captured from a car on Sunday by Youtube user linalia, who wrote: "I had pulled over to ride the storm out & got much more than I bargained for."

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo told the Wall Street Journal that there have been no reports of serious injuries resulting from the twister but there was structural damage, including downed trees and power lines.

The twister touched down from one of many severe thunderstorms that ignited during the afternoon across the Northeast as a cold front sliced into a humid air mass in place across the region.

This image, courtesy of the San Diego National Weather Service Forecast Office, displays where the tornado and funnel cloud were reported.

The severe storms that struck the Northeast produced up to golf ball-sized hail and tree-downing winds.

One person was injured in Schaghticoke, N.Y., as high winds sent trees and power lines crashing down.

Readings over 11 are considered extreme values in which only 10 minutes of full exposure to the sun will produce a sunburn.
