Snow Grazes DC to Philly, Nicks NYC, Belts Boston

By By Kristina Pydynowski, senior meteorologist

Heavy snow that invaded the Northeast Monday grazed the Interstate 95 mid-Atlantic, but is unloading heavy snow in northern New England.

Cold air was stubborn to leave the Northeast's interior and northern New England, which allowed for significant snow to fall.

While enough cold air was present for snow and sleet to accompany the complex storm as it first reached Washington, D.C., Philadelphia and New York milder air arrived and led to a changeover to rain at a quick pace compared to places farther inland.
