Cold, snow & frost returning to Northeast, Midwest
As colder air plunges into the Northeast and Midwest this weekend, parts of these regions will see the return of snow and the threat for freezing temperatures and frost.
Snow showers will develop across the Northeast's interior tonight. A couple of inches could accumulate in the Adirondack, Green and White mountains into Sunday.

The snow will generally only make an appearance in Buffalo, N.Y., and Burlington, Vt.
A dry night is in store for the Northeast's Interstate 95 corridor. Lows will drop into the 40s from Boston to Philadelphia to Washington, D.C. Temperatures have not been that cold so far this month. Gusty winds will further add to the chill.
Tonight's snow will arrive from the Upper Midwest, where snow has been falling since Friday. Elcho, Wis., measured 6.0 inches of snow from Friday evening into early this morning. Trees became weighted down by the snow's weight.
Skies will clear across the Upper Midwest tonight as the snow heads eastward. With winds also calming, the stage will be set for a hard frost and freeze across northern Minnesota, northern Wisconsin and western upper Michigan.
A breeze will prevent a frost across the rest of northern Michigan, but a widespread freeze will occur.
Scattered frost is possible in the coldest spots as far south as central Illinois and West Virginia. This includes the suburbs of Chicago and Detroit.
The potential for a frost and freeze will expand to the mid-Atlantic's interior Sunday night. The threat will be widespread in the Appalachians, where temperatures will dip into the 20s.
Patchy frost could even develop across the coldest spots in eastern Pennsylvania. The same is true for Virginia's Shenandoah Valley, if the sky can remain clear.
Brisk winds will stop frost formation in New England Sunday night. Temperatures will still drop to near or below freezing across the interior.
If you live in an area being threatened by a frost or freezing temperatures, be sure to cover or bring indoors any sensitive plants.
You may also opt to use your fireplace during one or both of these upcoming chilly nights, instead of leaving the window open as many likely have recently.
