A tropical wave drifting west of Guatemala may develop into a tropical depression or tropical storm by late week.

This potential tropical development in the eastern Pacific will bring a flood threat for parts of Central America, specifically El Salvador, southern Guatemala and southern Honduras.

Heavy rain and mudslides will also be a concern for parts of Central America.

Hurricane Ida in November 2009 brought heavy rainfall to parts of Costa Rica, Nicaragua and Honduras.

Hurricane Adrian, which formed in mid-May 2005 as the first storm of the Pacific hurricane season, made landfall in Honduras after organizing itself over San Salvador.

Both storms plagued Central America with flash flooding, mudslides and prompted evacuations along the coastal regions.
