Pittsburgh: Dangerous Cold to Continue Through Tuesday

By By Alex Sosnowski, senior meteorologist.
    January 08, 2014, 1:07:32 AM EST

Conditions outdoors through Tuesday will make it dangerous to be outdoors for long periods of time without being properly dressed in the Pittsburgh area.

RealFeel® temperatures will dip to minus 30 degrees and lower Monday night and will remain below zero through the day Tuesday.

Despite some sunshine, actual high temperatures will struggle to reach above zero in the metro area.

Tuesday morning will be the coldest since Jan. 17, 2009, at the airport.

A daily record low for the city set in 1884 may be broken. Over one hundred years ago Tuesday, the temperature plunged to minus 5 degrees.

There is some good news for folks struggling with the cold.

Temperatures will slowly trend upward later this week and could touch 50 degrees in some locations this weekend.
