A blast of Arctic air accompanied by snow caused a slippery commute for some from the Great Lakes to the Northeast, while the first snow of the season reached the I-95 corridor.

Slippery, icy roads led to accidents around Chicago, Detroit, Buffalo, N.Y., and Dayton, Ohio, Monday night into Tuesday.

One to 3 inches of snow accumulated around the Pittsburgh area through Tuesday morning. Portions of I-80 were closed early Tuesday morning across western Pennsylvania due to the burst of snow, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.

The first snow of the season arrived from Boston to New York City and Philadelphia early Tuesday, with some snow mixing in around Baltimore. Snow was falling heavily across the northwestern suburbs of New York City, lowering visibility and threatening slippery roadways early.

Some snow fell all the way to the Atlantic Coast, including a quick burst of snow for Atlantic City, N.J.

Farther south, snow accumulations topped 4 inches in portions of West Virginia, including in Canaan Heights.

Meanwhile, as cold air continue to flow across the warm Great Lakes waters, heavy lake-effect snow bands have been set up across the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, northern Lower Peninsula of Michigan, southwestern Michigan and northwestern Indiana.
