Peeing Boy Plumbing Problems

The Manneken Pis, or "peeing boy" statue, in Brussels, Belgium, cannot pee. That is to say, freezing temperatures have caused officials to turn off the the flow of water through the statue, according to Reuters. Water was shut off due to fears that the cold may damage the internal mechanism.

On Feb. 7, the high temperature in Brussels was only 20°F (-6.4°C) and the low temperature was 9°F (-13°C ). The average temperature for Brussels on Feb. 7 is 37°F (2.8°C ).

Europe has been gripped by extreme cold, which has claimed the lives of over 300 people. The cold will continue on through the weekend with a very slowly changing weather pattern.

According to Brussels.info, the Manneken Pis has a vital role in the city's holiday calendar and dons a different outfit to correspond with several different celebrations. On some special occasions, different flavors of Belgian beer pour from the fountain's tip and given to the public.
