NYC: Less Humid Air to Turn Off Downpours

By By Alex Sosnowski, senior meteorologist.
    July 17, 2014, 12:48:21 AM EDT

In the wake of the drenching, gusty and disruptive storms into Wednesday, drier air will settle into the New York City area for the latter part of the week.

While downpours still threaten to ruin the day at the beach Wednesday, some sunshine is forecast for the city and suburbs with lowering humidity by Thursday.

The less humid air will set the stage for lower temperatures at night. Lows will dip to unseasonably cool levels in the northern and western suburbs into the end of the week, while record chill holds up over the Midwest.

During the weekend and into next week, humidity levels and eventually temperatures will trend upward. As this happens, the risk of thunderstorms will increase across the region.
