A Malaysian Airliner carrying 295 people crashed in eastern Ukraine on Thursday afternoon, local time. The plane was traveling at 33,000 feet when it disappeared from radar, according to the Associated Press.

Weather conditions in the region this afternoon featured a mixture of clouds and sun.

While there were some gusty winds and spotty thunderstorms around earlier in the day, conditions were improving at the time of the crash and weather is not expected to be a factor.

Reports from the Associated Press indicate that the plane may have been shot down over Ukrainian airspace.

Most of the clouds were located at middle and high levels and may have obscured vision between the ground and aircraft. The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
