The first taste of fall weather and significant rainfall of the season are in store for the Southland this week.
Following record heat with triple-digit temperatures at the beginning of October, the wet weather is being accompanied by a noticeable cooldown.
Showers and thunderstorms are likely into tonight as a cold storm system tracks into the Los Angeles Basin.
Thunderstorms could even be locally strong with gusty winds, heavy downpours and hail. It is not out of the question that there could be a stray waterspout near the beaches or weak tornado over the land.
Meanwhile, temperatures will be cold enough to support snow in the highest elevations. Snow levels are likely to drop to near 7,000 feet. Cold, windy conditions and snow are possible at the top of the Palm Springs Tram.
