How Warm Will East Get this Week?
Warmer air will continue spreading eastward across the country the rest of the week, sending temperatures soaring well above normal from the Plains to the Northeast and mid-Atlantic. The warm-up in the East will span through Saturday, making for a beautiful first day of spring.
For many places in the Northeast, temperatures Friday and Saturday will be the warmest they've been since November or early December. Temperatures in Philadelphia and Washington, D.C., are expected to reach 70 for the first time since the middle of November.

High temperatures will reach the 60s across a large portion of the Midwest and mid-Atlantic Thursday through Saturday. Across much of the Carolinas, Virginia and Maryland, highs will reach the 70s Friday and Saturday.
High temperatures in New York City and Pittsburgh are expected to be in the 60s Wednesday through Sunday, making this the longest stretch of days with temperatures over 60 degrees since late October.
By Saturday, temperatures across southern Virginia and northern North Carolina will reach the upper 70s. It is possible that a few places reach 80 degrees for the first time this year.
The warmth is also being felt across much of the Midwest and northern Plains. Temperatures will remain 10 to 20 degrees above normal with highs in the 50s and 60s across these regions over the next couple of days.
A cold front will, however, bring an end to the warmth as it heads eastward across the northern Plains Thursday into Friday and the Midwest over the weekend. This colder air will reach the Eastern Seaboard early next week.
Thunderstorms, some strong, are expected to develop ahead of this front as it crosses the nation. In its wake, snow will fall across areas from the Rockies to the upper Great Lakes as temperatures plummet into 20s and 30s.

The "Dead of Winter," the one-month period when normal temperatures reach their lowest levels, has come to an end for much of the United States. Some people may find it odd that the "Dead of Winter" does not encompass the darkest day of the year (the first day of winter). That is due to a seasonal lag in temperatures. More heat continues to be lost than is gained from the start of winter until this time of year.
