Harrisburg: Weekend Snow to Follow Storm Break

By By Alex Sosnowski, senior meteorologist.
    February 08, 2014, 1:23:54 AM EST

In the wake of the recent winter storms, the Harrisburg, Pa., area will get a break through Friday. However, there is still the potential for snow this weekend.

Storm-free weather is in store through Friday.

Motorists and pedestrians are advised to be on the lookout for areas of black ice during the evening, overnight hours and first thing in the morning. Areas made wet by prior melting can freeze, unless treated.

While extreme cold is not expected, temperatures will bring difficulties for those still without a means of heat.

Two storm systems will affect the area this weekend and will bring areas of snow to the Northeast.

A southern storm could spread snow into the area on Saturday.

Even if this storm fails to reach this far north, a storm from the Midwest will produce some snow Saturday night and Sunday.

The two storms will compete with one another to avoid the blizzard scenario.

However, there is still the chance of the two storms merging nearby offshore on Sunday, which could produce a snowstorm and moderate wind in the region.
