DC: Rainstorm to Soak Area Sunday, Then Colder by New Year's Eve

By By Kristina Pydynowski, senior meteorologist

A mild weekend is in store, but Sunday will be wet and rather stormy around Washington, D.C.

The sunny weather will not last into Sunday as as rain will instead pour down.

The rain can slow motorists, including those heading home from their Christmas destinations or heading to New Year's Eve celebrations. Airline passengers should prepare for possible delays.

Due to the warmer air, there is not a threat of Sunday's rain starting as or ending as snow. The same cannot be said for the mountains of northern West Virginia.
