DC: Cooler Air to Return by Early This Week

By By Alex Sosnowski, senior meteorologist.
    September 08, 2014, 11:37:18 AM EDT

Hot and humid air was swept away from Washington, D.C., on Sunday and will remain away for the start of the new week, following locally drenching showers and thunderstorms.

After spending much of the first week of September with weather more typical of July, temperatures will return to close to average September levels by early this week in the wake of a strong cool front.

Highs will be near 80 F with lows in the middle 60s. Temperatures will dip into the 50s in some of the northern and western suburbs.

The cool push will not mark the end of warm, humid conditions just yet as temperatures are forecast to rebound later on this week.
