Chilly Rain to Follow Detroit's Dry Weekend

By By Kristina Pydynowski, senior meteorologist
    April 08, 2014, 1:25:40 AM EDT

The weekend's dry weather in Detroit will not last through Monday with chilly rain on the horizon.

Numerous clouds covering Detroit Monday morning should be a sign to residents to grab umbrellas and other rain gear out of the closet.

A storm system tracking northward from the Gulf Coast will cause Monday to turn increasingly rainy.

The better time to travel on Monday will be during the morning since the rain could cause flight delays and a slow commute home from work in the afternoon and evening.

Monday's temperatures will be held in the 40s much of the day before dropping into the upper 30s at night.

The storm will not pull in enough cold air to lead to a late-season snowstorm for Detroit, but will only produce the chilly rain.

Brisk winds will blow on Tuesday, along with a shower or two, in the storm's wake. A fairly typical early April day will follow on Wednesday.

Thursday is shaping up to be Detroit's warmest day so far this year as significantly warmer air surges in.
