Chicago: Strong Storms to Erase Warmth

Chicago-area residents will start off the week under the continued threat of severe weather.

After moving into the area on Sunday, severe thunderstorms will remain in the area through Monday night. The storms will be capable of producing torrential downpours, damaging winds, large hail and even an isolated tornado.

After highs in the 80s on Monday, the storm system will bring a cooldown effect into the area for the remainder of the week.

Highs will be in the 60s on Tuesday with a few showers in the morning.

“The July-like warmth early this week will get wiped out Tuesday into Wednesday as highs struggle to reach the low 60s in wake of a cold front,” said Accuweather.com Meteorologist Andy Mussoline.

A shower or thunderstorm will also occur Wednesday afternoon with variable cloudiness throughout the day.

By Thursday and Friday temperatures will bottom out as highs fail to get out of the 50s.

“A couple of passing showers and perhaps a thunderstorm will accompany the cool weather later this week,” Mussoline said.
