Boston: Downpours, Storms to Hit at Midweek

By By Alex Sosnowski, senior meteorologist.
    June 26, 2014, 1:14:38 AM EDT

Showers and thunderstorms will drench the Boston area and may cause disruptions Wednesday night into Thursday.

The combination of a front moving in from the Midwest and a building humidity will lead to downpours and locally gusty thunderstorms from late Wednesday night into Thursday.

The storms could pack enough rain to slow travel and cause incidents of flash and urban flooding.

There is a risk that downpours will linger into Thursday afternoon for fans planning on watching the US versus Germany World Cup match outdoors or venturing to their favorite sports bar.

As a consolation, enough dry air is forecast to filter in to greatly tone down the risk of showers and thunderstorms from Friday into Sunday. Most areas during this time will be free of rain but there is a remote chance of a popup downpour in the afternoon and evening hours.
