Tornado in The Bronx!

Jul 27, 2010; 12:36 PM ET

The National Weather Service in Upton (New York City) says in a preliminary report that an EF-1 tornado struck The Bronx Sunday afternoon just before 3 PM. Specifically "NORTH RIVERDALE IN THE BRONX...ALONG THE EASTERN SHORE THE HUDSON RIVER." They go on to say that this was the first tornado in The Bronx since 1950. The radar velocity showed tiny areas of rotation and the reflectivity (shown below) showed a large storm but questionable structure:

There were a number of NWS spotter reports Sunday in the area, including this one which resulted from the tornado: "7 INJURED: EF1 TORNADO IN NORTH RIVERDALE. TREES SNAPPED OFF AND BLOWN THROUGH WINDOWS AT THE HEBREW HOME FOR THE AGED ON PALISADES AVE. INJURIES PRIMARILY DUE TO BROKEN GLASS."

AccuWeather.com Facebook Fan Jose Diaz took this video as the storm moved through:

On the other side of the peninsula, AccuWeather.com Facebook Fan Anita R. took this video of the storm after it moved into the Bay at New Rochelle:
