ORIGINAL POST: Heavy snow is falling southwest of Raleigh, North Carolina at 9:30 AM this morning according to both radar and airport obs, shown below. In fact snow is falling pretty much everywhere in North Carolina and northern South Carolina, except Wilmington (though snow mixed with rain was falling there as shown by NCDOT webcams) and Cape Hatteras. There are several photos below from blog readers in the Carolinas.

LATEST MODERATORS PICKS: TAG "SNOW"

The NCDOT site says:

Currently, heavy snowfall is affecting several roads across North Carolina. The areas impacted include routes from I-95 westward to the Tennessee/North Carolina State Line. Please drive with caution as expected winter weather conditions may cause hazardous driving conditions. (JOHNSTON COUNTY: Roads throughout the county are covered with snow. We are in the process of pushing snow and spreading salt.)

10 AM TRAFFIC SNAPSHOT (RED=STOPPED, YELLOW=SLOW -- SEE NCDOT FOR REAL-TIME INFO)

The webcams on their page showed low visibility with snow covered conditions on I-40 at I-540 near Raleigh, NC, I-540 being at a near standstill near Chapel Hill Road. Accidents today will likely be widespread.
