I am @AccuFrank on Twitter, which is the most reliable way to get alerted when I post new stuff. There's also this Facebook fan page thingie, which is not particularly reliable for that but it's good for posting little things where 140 characters won't do them justice.

    • Stormy down south through Wednesday night

Stormy through midweek, then lasting chill starts late week

      Frank Strait - February 26, 2017, 6:31:28 PM EST

A cold front moving through will cause a lot of severe storms through Wednesday, then colder air will move in to stay for a while.

    • Severe storm risk Friday and Friday night

Friday severe storms, cooler this weekend, more storms next week

      Frank Strait - February 25, 2017, 9:21:30 AM EST

Over most of the South, it's feeling more like April or May than late February. The warmth will feed severe storms for some along a cold front moving through on Friday. The weekend will be cooler but only back to near average for late February and it will warm up again next week. Another front will move through during the middle to late part of next week with more storms, potentially more serious in terms of severe weather. After that, it will get cooler again and this time it will stay cool to chilly for a while.

    • Stormy Mid-Atlantic Saturday

Stormy mid-Atlantic Saturday, cooler air moving in briefly

      Frank Strait - February 25, 2017, 8:24:53 AM EST

The front causing storms in the Midwest down into Kentucky and Tennessee on Friday will bring some severe weather to the mid-Atlantic coast on Saturday. Behind it, a cooler air mass will move in for a couple of days, but we warm up again early next week. Next week looks active with a series of weak storm systems moving in and moisture from the tropics becoming more available. Another front will move through at the middle of next week with more severe weather. Behind that front we get cooler air to stay for a while, though.

    • Needed rain on the way to Florida

A front causes severe storms, then cooler

      Frank Strait - February 21, 2017, 10:16:51 PM EST

Unseasonable warmth ahead of a front that is moving through Thursday and Saturday will lead to some severe weather to deal with. At this point, I don't think the South will have many tornadoes to deal with, but there can be a few of them; damaging wind will be a threat. Behind the front will come a turn to more typical February temperatures. The Appalachians will even see some snow, though likely not a lot. The chilly air won't hang around long, though. A big surge of warmth is coming early next week with a potentially bigger severe weather event.

    • Flood threat Monday

Warm all week, then cooler this weekend

      Frank Strait - February 20, 2017, 4:23:46 AM EST

It will remain quite warm across the South this week. With a a springlike air mass in place, storm systems that move through will cause springlike storms. A cold front moving through at the end of the week will lead in cooler air for the weekend for most. Don't expect the cool air to stick around long, though.

    • Stormy in Texas Sunday

Warm until next weekend, stormy Plains Sunday

      Frank Strait - February 18, 2017, 10:23:14 PM EST

There's no cold air in sight, not until at least next weekend; so the warm spell is going to continue for a while. The strong storm system out in California will move into the Plains Sunday and cause some severe storms and flooding rains in parts of Texas and Oklahoma.

    • Here comes a warmup

Warmth to build in the Plains and spread east

      Frank Strait - February 15, 2017, 10:17:43 PM EST

A weak shot of chilly air has pushed in but it's pretty lame by February standards. It won't last long, either. A warmup starts Thursday and will expand east into the Southeast Friday through the weekend. The warm air is going to stick around for a while, too. It may be the end of the month before we see any real cold air coming down into the South again. It's too early to say winter's over, but it's very hard to get a big snowstorm down South once you get into March.

    • Stormy southern Plains

A warm storm to move through, so severe weather instead of snow

      Frank Strait - February 13, 2017, 6:58:35 PM EST

With mild air in place over most of the South, there is concern with a storm that's will move through over the next couple of days with severe thunderstorms rather than winter weather. Parts of Texas and the higher Appalachians will see limited amounts of snow, but that's it. No major cold is coming behind this storm. In fact, after a brief spell of somewhat chillier weather, the next several days look warm again.
