We Flipped Right Back to a Thanksgiving Snowstorm in the Northeast

November 16, 2010; 9:29 AM

Comments.

1. I put a link below to the snow map on our AccuWeather.com site since I gave my input into the snowfall across that area. In any case, local blizzard conditions will hit that area today.

2. Here we go again. The GFS model below now shows a snowstorm on Thanksgiving cutting across the mid-Atlantic states. I would not get too excited for that to happen, but what I would get excited about is the pattern late next week that may produce the first significant snow event for areas north of Kentucky to Virginia. Both the Euro and GFS have been showing the phasing and amplification of the trough in the East late next week. If it all comes together, we could see low pressure develop in the South, move to the coast and explode into the first big snowstorm for the I-95 corridor. In fact, I may have to pull the Big Daddy hat out if it all happens.

Understand, I do not think there is a snowstorm Thanksgiving Day. I think it happens during the Friday and Saturday time period if it occurs.

In the meantime, we do have snow potential for the Plains and western Great Lakes early in the week as the cold air moves in. I think tomorrow, I will be putting out my first snow potential maps.

Marginal severe weather the rest of the week, but the weekend could turn ugly in the Plains as the tornadoes return.
