Rare Ice Texas to Mississippi... Another Euro Storm

March 4, 2014; 9:53 AM ET

1. It's about a rare event as one would see for eastern Texas into Mississippi this morning. I don't ever recall seeing ice in that part of the country in early March. We typically see at least one ice event early in the winter, but I think this is the third or fourth event we have seen this year for eastern Texas and Louisiana. The ice will continue into early afternoon before ending as just rain as temps rise.

2. I see the ECWMF has another big snowstorm next week. I think the GFS may have a better solution with the two branches of the jet staying separate and one wave of low pressure runs out across the South while another runs across the Great Lakes and Northeast. There's always the chance the ECMWF has the correct solution. DGEX, Canadian and JMA agree with GFS.
