Latest on the Severe Weather Sunday

    Commentary

The storm that develops this weekend will strengthen as it moves into the Great Lakes. A band of heavy rain with strong winds will race across the Ohio Valley into the Northeast Sunday into Sunday. While not technically thunderstorms, the band of rain can produce strong winds with gusts over 50 mph. The low-level jet that is moving into the area as shown on the video is over 60 knots (at 5,000 feet) so that is a good indication that gusts could exceed 50 mph.

The cold air coming in behind the storm is not as extensive as what was shown earlier this week on the operational models. That means a quick shot of lake-effect snow Monday into Tuesday before the cold air moves away again.
