Comments and Happy Holidays
Note: No posts this weekend. Going into holiday mode.
1. The Christmas storm is not coming and it appears now that no snow will fall from that system through Monday. When it does come out on Tuesday, there is still the chance of some wet snow on the northern flank, especially in areas that had snow last night.
2. Snow showers will cascade across the Great Lakes and into the Northeast this weekend. Some places will pick up a coating to an inch of snow.
3. Next week I see ways it can snow in the East. The NAO is going toward neutral and may even go negative for a bit. There are two powerhouse troughs coming down, and while the models are not really showing much in the way of surface storms, it will just take one of these troughs to stir up a storm along the coast and snow to break out across the mid-Atlantic and Northeast. I am more fired up for the event around the 30th, and even more fired up then the Christmas non-storm. It's on the table and something I will be looking at closely on Monday. The map below shows the area I will be watching next week.
4. Lastly, I am making the prediction that a Big Daddy snowstorm will occur around mid-February for the mid-Atlantic to the Northeast. Snowfall in the 12- to 30-inch range is what I am expecting. I might be wrong, but based on my research of previous La Nina's and NAO's and years that started out warm, the pattern always flips about mid-February and a major storm occurs. I know this is a bold prediction and many of you will be skeptical given the current pattern, but one must look at the data to see how it occurs.
Temperatures will be swinging around but the warmth will end up winning.
Heavy storms will hit parts of New Mexico and western Texas.
Heavy storms will hit parts of New Mexico with heavy rains and gusty winds.
The band of heavy rains should end tonight, allowing drier weather to move in.
Heavy rains associated with the upper-level low will hit the Carolinas into Virginia. Some areas could get over a foot of rain by Monday!
The heavy rains are still coming and someone is going to have up to a foot of rain and flooding.
