End of Week Storms... Ernesto Heading into the Yucatan

August 07, 2012; 9:12 AM

Commentary

No much has changed with Ernesto. Still heading into the Yucatan as a strong tropical storm. Flooding will be the main impact of the storm as it crosses the Yucatan. Some places may have over a foot of rain over the next couple of days.

I am impressed with the trough coming into the eastern part of the country Thursday and Friday. That trough will be produced severe storms as well as flooding rain. I'm not sure where the heaviest rains will fall just yet, but with parts of the mid-Atlantic into southern New England wet now, flash flooding can surely occur. This is not a river flood situation, only a small stream and urban flooding event in some locations.

The impacts storms will be mainly damaging wind gusts and hail. In the wake, a few waterspouts may occur over lakes Erie and Ontario.
