Blizzard Big Daddy to Hit New England; NYC on the Edge

February 6, 2013; 12:32 PM ET

It's amazing that with a weak positive NAO and a weak positive PNA we still can manage to get a blizzard going. Just think if the blocking were stronger, what could happen. In any case, the storm is coming and will phase just in time to hit New England with a blizzard that will cause heavy snow and massive drifting. On my scale, this will be a Big Daddy and a Category 4 Winter Storm, almost a 5. The storm will produce heavy snow from Friday afternoon through Saturday morning and will bring travel to a standstill Friday night.

Snow will also be moderate to heavy at times coming across the Great Lakes and Northeast as shown on the map.

The tough forecast to me is New York City. Blizzard conditions will be within eyesight of the top floors of the Empire State Building. I think the city gets 3-6 inches of snow, but any deviation of the storm could mean more or less in the city.
