A Look at the Next Outbreak as Record Season Continues
Apr 17, 2011; 6:24 AM ET
Discussion
1. As for tornadoes, we are now on pace for a record season equal only to 2004 and 2008 seasons. The past three days will go down as a record outbreak in regards to the number of tornadoes for a three-day event. I will have to do some searching, but I think over 200 tornadoes in three days is the most I have seen for one storm. In fact, the 2008 event had 131 in one day.
In some of the research I have done, this is the most tornadoes for a single storm. It tops 1974 and 2008 storms for the most tornadoes for a single storm during a three-day period.
2. The next storm coming along will also produce another round of tornadoes. While not as bad as this one, it could be one that has over 50 tornadoes in the populated areas of the Midwest.
We are not done yet, it's going to be a record tornado season!.
